How to Fill with Water: Base of clock is water cap. Unscrew the base. Fill tank with ordinary tap water. Make sure both inside tank cavities are filled with water to the fill line that is marked on the outside of the tank. Screw bottom base cap back on clock. Invert clock and stand clock on base. Clock will run continuously for about 6-12 weeks or more. If the display begins to fade, that is an indication that you will need to change the water, as described above. When you change the clock's water, the time will be kept for 2 minutes during this process.
How to Rejuvenate the Battery: Over time the metal plates or rods that produce the current necessary to power your clock will need to be cleaned. If the LCD display is dim and not responding as well to the water, or if you notice a build-up of grime on the metal rods, it could be an indication that the rods inside the clock need to be cleaned. Follow these steps in order to clean the rods:
- Unscrew the base and fill the tank with new water to the fill line marked on the outside of the tank.
- Add 3-4 teaspoons of normal vinegar to the water tank.
- Screw base back on clock. While being careful not to drop the clock, vigourously shake the water tank so the vinegar and water are thoroughly mixed.
- Remove the base, prop up clock so that the water does not spill. Let the clock sit for 1-2 hours, then empty the clock's water tank. Be careful not to set near open flame.
- Pour out water mixture. Rinse well with water. Refill the water tank with only water, according to the instructions above (i.e. How to Fill with Water).
Warning: Do not place near fire or open flame. The gases generated by the chemical reaction inside the clock are a fire hazard, especially when vinegar is being used to clean the electrodes inside the clock. Do not add lemon, salt or any additive to water for general use.
