This is our 100% pure natural rubber mattress providing the necessary support for adults. All around the mattress we apply 100% organic wool that serves as a fire retardant and helps moderate body temperature, cooling in summer and warming in winter. The mattress is then enveloped in 100% pure organic cotton fabric.

Sounds simple? It is. We don't use any synthetic chemicals, no off-gassing materials, glues, fire retardants, vinyl, polyester - so many things that regular mattresses are manufactured with. These materials are released every time you lay on the mattress compressing it, absorbing straight into your body. A lot of these materials are carcinogenic and all of them are harmful to your health one way or another. If you want to live in a healthy home, get rid of off-gassing furniture and in with an organic mattress!

Natural rubber is chosen for its qualities of flexibility combined with support. In addition, the absorbency and resilience of natural rubber provide excellent heat and moisture regulation, coupled with efficient air circulation. Natural rubber is also antibacterial, mold- and dust-free. Natural latex rubber is the only real modern day alternative to regular mattresses. There is no other, 100% pure natural material that comes close to the support, comfort and breathability natural latex mattresses provide.

How to choose the right mattress?

When buying a mattress, it is important to think about 2 factors: support and comfort. When you purchase a natural rubber mattress, you get ultimate support but what about comfort? Here are 5 pointers to get you in the right direction:

1) Sleeping Position

15% of people: Back (buy a natural latex topper for pressure point relief)
80% of people: Side (buy a natural latex topper for pressure point relief)
5% of people: Stomach (should not use a topper or pillow)

2) Height & Weight

Medium firmness: less than 170lbs
Firm mattresses: over 170 lbs
If more than one person will be sleeping on the mattress the firmness should be determined by the weight of the heaviest person.

3) Injuries : If you have any hip, spinal or other injuries, it is recommended to buy a topper for pressure point relief.

4) Body Type: If you have wide shoulders or wide hip bones, a topper will provide you with the softness to sink into the mattress and align your spine for a perfect sleep.

5) Comfort Preference: Ultimately, you are to be happy and comfortable with their purchase. Come to our stores and test, try all our mattresses!

Organic Cotton: Handpicked in Peru. Cotton is breathable and no chemicals are added to the fabric (organic). Conventionally grown cotton is considered the world's 'dirtiest' crop due to its heavy use of insecticides, the most hazardous pesticide to human and animal health. Cotton covers 2.5% of the world's cultivated land, yet uses 16% of the world's insecticides, more than any other single major crop (Environmental Justice Foundation in collaboration with Pesticide Action Network UK). Organic Wool: The unbleached sheep's wool comes from the far south of Argentina, below Patagonia. Its strength is due to the cool temparatures and strong winds of the region. Lanolin residue comprises approximately 4-6% of the wool after washing, which aids in fighting dust mite populations. Wool is a natural flame retardant and will absord the humidity that the body creates, keeping you cool. The sheep that provide the wool for our beds graze in 50 km x 50 km fields, and are only in contact with humans twice a year, for de-worming and sheering. Wool is sheared from the back only, not the stomach, to prevent any chance of animal harm. Wool from the stomach is much dirtier and requires more washing as well, which would require more resources. Natural Rubber: The best rubber milk from plantations in Malaysia and Thailand (back up source) are used for our beds. The Dunlop cooking process is used for purity, and the rubber is cooked the same day that it is collected. The result is the purest possible rubber, anywhere from 94-97%, depending on the firmness of the mattress. The only additive, as mentioned previously, is Zinc Oxide, which burns off during the cooking process and becomes an ash residue. This rubber is the most elastic, durable, anti-sagging rubber and is anti-bacterial. The alternative to the Dunlop process, Talalay, requires a minimum of 20% additives during the cooking process. Dunlop mattresses are generally heavier and more durable. Sustainable Wood: From well-managed forests of Quebec, using the traditional jardinage method of selective logging, comes the wood for our beds. No synthetic glues are applied to our foundations. All pieces are nailed in place by skilled professionals. Kiln-dried pure Spruce is used, for no odours and high durability. A supportive, natural complement to our organic mattresses.

Features

A 20 year conditional warranty applies to our Natural Rubber mattresses. Our warranty is provides 10 years of full value coverage and 10 years of prorated coverage. This means that after ten years, your mattress warranty loses half of it's value and each year, it is worth 5% less until the 20 years are over.

A proper slat foundation must be used, with slats approximately 2"-2.5" apart and the width of each slat approximately 2.5"-4.5" wide (3" is ideal).

If a defect that is covered by the warranty is discovered during the period of the warranty, Grassroots will repair or replace (at our option) the defective item within a reasonable period of time. We reserve the right to refuse service and invalidate this warranty when, upon inspection, the sleep set is found to be in an unsanitary condition, or when the product failure is due to cause other than defective workmanship or materials.

Grassroots does not warrant that this product is suitable for any person’s medical condition.

In order for the warranty to be valid, you must:

Be the original purchaser
Provide a copy of the original proof of purchase from Grassroots
Provide the law label from the product

The warranty includes:

Mattresses:

Stitches pulled out of the quilting
Body indentations of 1"-5" or greater
Excessively lumpy feeling

Sagging: your mattress must be continuously supported by a matching foundation, or equivalent, an appropriate frame (the frame should include a center support with at least 5 legs or 5 hardwood cross-slats for queen and king sets. If wood legs are used, there must be 4 legs per foundation).

Foundations:

Splits in the wood frame
Squeaks, rattles, or noises
Loose or broken plastic pieces
Compression of modules
Unstapling of modules

Items not covered: stains, soils or burns, damage caused by moving, transportation costs, comfort preference, sheet fit, damage due to abuse, structural damage due to improper bed frame andother possibilities not mentioned on this warranty.
